“Big data, little data, open data” – Prof. Dr. Christine L. Borgman opens series “Göttingen Lectures on Academic Information Futures”

On 23 March 2015 information scientist Prof. Dr. Christine L. Borgman, professor and Presidential Chair for Information Science at the University of California in Los Angeles, held a presentation at the Historical Builiding of Göttingen State and University Library (SUB Göttingen).

This was the opening presentation of the series “Göttingen Lectures on Academic Information Futures” and has been initiated by SUB Göttingen in cooperation with the Göttingen eResearch Alliance (eRA). In her talk about “Big data, little data, open data” Borgman highlighted the special role of the library in the area of research data management in a permanently changing research environment.

Christine L. Borgman has authored more than 200 publications in the field of information science, computer science and communications and has been honored for her work on the science in the digital age. Her new book, “Big Data, Little Data, No Data: Scholarship in the Networked World” was published by MIT Press earlier this year.

The event series “Göttingen Lectures on Academic Information Futures” touches topics about scientific information infrastructure from actual needs of researchers and the organisation and development of digital supplies to stategic questions related to the future.
