Textbooks in the Central Library are freely accessible in the corresponding subject areas on the respective floors.
Chemistry textbooks are situated in the Physics Divisional Library. Interdisciplinary textbooks are shelved in the Central Library, all other textbooks are located in the respective Divisional libraries (for Forestry Sciences, Medicine, Physics and Social and Economic Studies).
Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, no physical course reserves will be available for the winter semester 2020/21 and the summer semester 2021. We thank you for your understanding.
From the holdings of the Göttingen State and University Library lecturers may compile literature for their courses as reserve materials. Those course reserves are shelved alphabetically according to the lecturer’s name in the specifically designated areas. They are marked in the Göttingen University Catalogue as part of the respective course reserve. They may not be borrowed for the length of the semester and are to be read in the reading rooms of the libraries only, an exemption on week-ends or overnight is not possible.
Course reserves are to be found at the following locations
For the implementation of course reserves in the reading rooms Historic Printed Collections or Manuscripts and Rare Books, please contact us per E-Mail.
Please detail the shelf mark of the items, name and institute of the tutor as well as the title of the course and together with a list of the titles you need hand them in at the location where you wish your course reserve to be placed (in the Central Library, in the Historical Building and in the Divisional Libraries).
We kindly ask you to please fill in the form provided here.
Please note that material from the reference section of the reading rooms of the Central Library and the Historical Building may not be part of course reserves.
If the item in need is on loan it will be reserved by us and after its due return included in the course reserve.
Items from other location of the Göttingen State and University Library may usually also be part of a course reserve.
Please note that divisional libraries may request those books back from the course reserve that came from their reference sections.
Due to its long opening hours the Central Library does not provide items from its reference section for course reserves at other locations. The same applies to the reference section of the Waldweg Library.
Please submit a request for acquisition for those items that are much needed for a course reserve but not part of our holdings. We shall guarantee a priority processing of those items.
Inter-library loans – due to only very restricted loan periods – may not be used for a course reserve.
Journal volumes and copy templates should preferably not be part of course reserves.
You may upload your bibliography in stud.ip or link your references directly to online articles (Electronic course reserves).
After handing in the list of titles the reserve will usually be implemented within a week. Volumes that are added later will be included within two workdays.
Books in the course reserve may not be borrowed (neither overnight nor over the weekend) so please make sure that work on them has been finished by the time they are handed in.
With the end of the semester, materials from the course reserve will be returned to their respective locations. Should you wish another schedule, please let us know either directly or via the form mentioned above.
