The register of UNESCO's Memory of Mankind program includes significant documents, archives, and collections from around the world of outstanding universal value to human history. It consists of written documents, audio and video files, photographs, maps, manuscripts and much more.

Germany is currently represented in this UNESCO register with 28 entries, including the Gutenberg Bible of the Göttingen State and University Library since 2001. The 1,282-page Bible is one of four completely preserved 42-line copies printed on parchment and the only one existing in Germany.
