Cultural Heritage Lower Saxony - Project details
Cultural Heritage Lower Saxony
The museums, archives and libraries of Lower Saxony hold a large number of attractive objects of cultural heritage. The „Kulturerbe Niedersachsen“ (Cultural Heritage Lower Saxony) website offers a central hub for making available and accessing digital reproductions of these items. It is currently maintained on a partnership basis by several institutions from different fields, ranging from archives and libraries to museums. It is coordinated by the Göttingen State and University Library.
The website aims to improve the infrastructure of cultural tourism in Lower Saxony and to bring into focus the collecting activities of lower saxon cultural intuitions for citizens and researchers alike.
The amount of high quality digital reproductions of the cultural assets of lower saxon memory institutions is constantly being expanded and increased. The objects are digitized, described in context and presented via the platform „Kulturerbe Niedersachsen“. At the same time, the digital exhibits are made available to the „Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek“ (DDB, German Digital Library) and EUROPEANA to position and make visible Lower Saxony both on a national and European level.
