Building a Portal to Visual Kabbalah
The Ilanot are to be made available on a digital platform to researchers for advanced studies and at the same time also accessible to a broader public. ‘Maps of God’ will allow researchers granular access to the image-text elements with their special features and their complex configurations. Interested laypeople can explore some of the most impressive visual artifacts of the Kabbalah. From the precise study of the individual parchment rolls to transcriptions, translations, and comments to a search function for concepts, as they have graphically evolved over centuries. In this way, ‘Maps of God’ will also become a platform for the publication of scientific editions of central artifacts that can only be adequately represented and published in this form.
