NSF/DFG Cornell-Michigan - Project details

The Development of a Distributed Library of Mathematical Monographs

This project will create a distributed depot of historically significant mathematical monographs.
The participation of Goettingen, Michigan, and Cornell is not just important in terms of the pioneering work in digital libraries and conversion technology - but also due to the outstanding collections that each of these schools has in the field. The scope of the collections suggested for the project and the experience of the project partners allows for a concentration in the following areas: distributed repositories, expanded access and retrieval possibilities, high quality interoperability, and ease of free flow of information.
The project will provide three important results: increase in the output of three signficiant digital libraries through improved sharing mechanisms, an extensive and meaningful collection of historical materials in mathematics, and a valuable study about how distributed resources can be unified.
