Promoting and Enhancing Reuse of Information throughout the Content Lifecycle taking account of Evolving Semantics (PERICLES) – is a four-year project funded by the European Union under its Seventh Framework Programme (ICT Call 9).
The PERICLES project investigates different kind of changes that affect the lifecycle of digital objects. The focus of this project lies on changes in semantic, processes, policies and designated user community and not on technological obsolescence from hard- and software. These challenges will be addressed by developing extensions to current preservation and lifecycle models. The models will be complemented with a suite of tools that allows to manage the non technical changes. A research field is to find new methods to gather and embed metadata during the creating of a digital object. The research is developed and tested with real word scenarios with data from digital art and space science.
